Imagine you're a character in a Lord of the Rings novel. And math is the imaginary landscape that you are going on an adventure through. When a number is irrational, it is not easy to work with compared to natural numbers. So they're marking the map as a hard pass in the mountain ridge that is on your journey, assuming you want to explore that world.
I wonder if dry reading means written without the influence of drink. I couldn't find an answer online. But, if so, it would be ironic to describe a stat book that ignored a brewer as dry.
The results seem so clinical or academic now. I want to read what freaks write. I often add the word reddit to my search or other platforms tags to get more opinionated and personal content.
