The test-to-speech on the old kindles was surprisingly good. I used to walk to work, and listen to my kindle on the way. Also worked pretty good with one of those audio-to-tape adapter rigs in my old car - way better than trying to find non-abridged audiobooks on tape and then deal with switching through a box of a dozen tapes on long drives.
