Fellow materialist here. For me materialism, and more specifically a strong degree of determinism, is the only coherent solution to the problem of responsibility and agency.
After all, if my decisions do not flow from my state, including my experience, memories, preferences, etc, how can we say they are meaningfully mine? I fully accept a degree of randomness in the process, quantum mechanics is a thing, but randomness is just noise. No determinism, no agency.
